AIR RAID 36/46 is an easy-to-learn WWII aircraft-tabletop-game. It combines elements of fun, tactics and luck. Basically, two sides with one or more players per side compete against each other. Both sides agree on a theater of war (Pacific, Western Front, Eastern Front, or Africa), the scenario type, and then choose their aircraft to compete with.

Scenarios range from simple dogfights, where whichever side gets the most kills wins, to specific objectives to be met. For example, if one side sinks the enemy aircraft carrier while its own carrier survives the battle, then it wins the scenario even if it lost more aircraft itself.

A special feature of AIR RAID 36/46 are the aircraft miniatures on a scale of 1:200: They are highly detailed metal models. Unlike many models made of resin or plastic, the AIR RAID 36/46 do not have any warped or twisted structures. There are also no optical groove structures that often arise with 3D printing. Furthermore, metal figures are more break-resistant than resin or plastic models due to their material.

he miniatures as well as the acrylic hexbases are made by German companies. Currently 35 different molds are ready for use. The range of fighters ranges from the Messerschmitt Bf-109, Focke Wulf 190, Hawker Hurricane, Supermarine Spitfire, Macchi Mc.200, Yak-3, Curtiss P-40, Grumman F4F Wildcat, Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero, Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa to to lesser-known models such as the Australian Wirraway, the P-26 used by the Philippines or the Mitsubishi A5M4 and the Nakajima Ki-27.

Bombers and torpedo bombers can be loaded separately. So it is possible to equip the carrier-based Japanese Nakajima B5N2 bomber with either a torpedo or a bomb.

The range includes aircraft that saw service in the Spanish Civil War in 1936 and those that were in the planning stages after the historic end of the war and would have flown in an alternate 1946 universe. Therefore we have also included some of these aircraft types in our range.

The game is played on a hex-structured playing field. This eliminates the need for protractors and tape measures, as well as possible discussions if whether or not the target is just within range of fire.

Also, with AIR RAID 36/46, no handwritten accounting of the damage to individual aircraft on separate record sheets is required: Damage that occurs is indicated by a marker directly on the respective model on the battlefield. In order to be able to see the individual values of the aircraft used, you only need one statistics card for each type of aircraft used, on which all the values required for the game are listed.

The game round itself is divided into three phases:

  • Initiative
  • Movement
  • Combat

Depending on the speed you choose, turns and special acrobatic maneuvers are easier or harder to perform. Here not only the type of aircraft determines the success, but also the quality of the pilot.

In the combat phase, alignment with the target is important. A fighter who shoots at his target directly from behind in the same direction of flight hits it considerably more easily than someone who is rushing towards him at an angle. If you have hit your target, then the number of critical hits is determined. Some aircraft, such as the Japanese Zero, are particularly maneuverable but can only take a few hits before being destroyed, while more heavily armored aircraft have reduced maneuverability but can take significantly more damage.

In addition to the basic basic rules, there are additional optional rules. Examples of optional rules are different flight altitudes or stronger effects of different pilot skills.

Es ist geplant, den Kickstarter im ersten Quartal 2023 zu starten. Wir nehmen uns aber die Zeit, alle Elemente der Basisbox produktionsreif zu haben, ehe wir den Kickstarter beginnen.
